Appearance And Design

Fitted with a 1.39 inch AMOLED display with a PPI of 326, the Amazfit Nexo delivers retina-grade visual output. The surface is lamented with the industry leading Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it from any scratches or nicks during activity or everyday use. The 2.5D screen also has a 175° which adds to the visual experience of the user.

According to Huami, its ceramic frame is polished for 35 days to bring across its brilliance. It is made from microcrystalline zirconium which provides strength to its components and safeguards against scratches which might occur with an ordinary aluminium alloy body. There is a simple sleek button to power on and off the device; although Always-On is a feature available.

Battery

The smartwatch sports a battery life of approximately 28-hours in one lifecycle. The 420mAh lithium-ion polymer battery can be easily recharged within 1.5 hours. That being said, given the competitors on the market and Amazfit’s own lineup, this seems to be the main weakness of the Nexo.

Functionality

The battery life might not be impressive, but the feature list does set the smartwatch apart from others within the range. It offers:

4G LTE Connection & Smartphone Notifications

Most smartwatches will allow you to receive alerts from your phone regarding any calls, texts or reminders. However, the ability to interact with those notifications is generally left within higher end models. Nexo lowers the cost of having a 4G LTE functions whereby you can make and receive calls with your smartwatch. You can use the built-in microphone and speaker or use a Bluetooth connected headset for responding. It comes with a dialer, but notably there is no keyboard function or quick reply option available. Therefore, texts and other notifications can only be viewed at this stage.

That being said, this does allow you to leave your phone at home or on the side as you workout. You can call in if there’s any important text to respond to, even if you’re not close to your phone. It always allows you to receive alerts or set alarms as with any other smartwatch. Lastly, like other high end smartwatches, you can use Amazon Alexa remotely on this device.

The Nexo also introduces Huami’s advanced health assessment framework which enables you to understand your physical performance at a glance. It takes the input of your daily workouts and heart rate monitoring to reproduce more meaningful data, giving you greater intuitive control over your wellbeing.

Along-with being a smartwatch, Nexo does perform as a fitness tracker with the following sports modes. It has a GPS function to accurately record your exercise data and help you evaluate your performance and capacity through its dedicated app assessment.

Unfortunately, the watch is water-resistant only to a certain extent and cannot be used while swimming.

Music Storage

Having on-device storage facility is a fairly decent feature of the Amazfit Nexo as it gives you the freedom to drop your phone at home while you workout. It also makes the playback smoother given no sync is required between your smartwatch and phone. You can curate your own playlist and keep it stored within the system for uninterrupted playback.

Sleep Monitoring

While there are certain concessions made to provide a more rounded user experience, sleep tracking option is available. Nexo will automatically detect when you’ve gone to sleep and monitor its quality throughout the night. Pair it with its alarm feature and you can receive gentle vibrations to help you start your day right.
